4 Awesome Prepaid, No-Contract 4G Phones
This time last year buying a decent 4G prepaid or no-contract phone that didn’t hurt the budget wasn’t the easiest thing to do. In fact, broadly speaking, the choice sucked. Not so this year.
Here are 4 awesome devices that currently cost less than $150.
One of the most popular prepaid phones you can get right now, the Samsung Exhibit II is a fast Android 2.3-powered smartphone with a responsive 3.7-inch multi-touch LCD display and 1 GHz processor. It comes with a main 3-megapixel camera on the rear (with auto-focus and face detection) and a smaller camera on the front for video calling.
Talk-time is a respectable 5.5 hours and you can expect up to 360 hours / 15 days of standby usage.
There’s a generous 4 GB on-board memory which is expandable with a microSD card if needed.
Because this is a Samsung device, it’s pre-installed with the Samsung Media Hub which lets you rent or buy movies and TV shows to watch wherever you are. With the Media Hub’s progressive download feature you don’t have to wait for the entire download to complete – you can start watching in a few seconds.
Content can also be shared between up to five other devices with the same Media Hub account.
The Samsung Exhibit II is ready to go on T-Mobile’s prepaid service so you’ll also get access to T-Mobile TV which features live and on-demand shows from ABC News NOW, FOX Sports, PBS Kids, and Azteca America – all for free.
The Samsung Exhibit II is a full-featured 4G phone that compares well with many high-end devices that cost twice as much.
The LG Motion for MetroPCS is a powerful 1.2 GHz dual-core processor device that comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) out-of-the-box, 5GB of on-board memory, a 4G mobile hotspot for sharing your LTE connection with other Wi-Fi devices like tablets, and an excellent 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture.
This is basically a very powerful phone for an incredible price.
There are two unlimited 4G plans available for the LG Motion on MetroPCS. Priced at $50 and $60, both prepaid plans will give you unlimited local and long distance calls, international text messaging and visual voice mail. If you choose the $60 plan you’ll also get the option of either Rhapsody Unlimited Music or MetroSTUDIO Video On Demand as part of the deal.
If you’re looking for a great deal on a MetroPCS 4G device, it’s hard to see what beats the LG Motion for price, quality and features.
The HTC EVO V 4G for Virgin Mobile is a 1.2 GHz processor device that comes with dual-cameras. You’ll find a 5-megapixel camera on the rear with full HD capture, and a smaller 1.3-megapixel shooter on the front for making video calls.
As well as a beautiful, 3D-enabled 4.3-inch display, this Android 4.0 device also comes with a mobile hotspot for sharing your high-speed 4G connection with other devices.
Other key features include Bluetooth 3.0 and a speedy Webkit Browser.
Another good value phone from Virgin Mobile.
Probably the best 4G device you’ll find on Boost Mobile, the HTC EVO Design packs a 5-megapixel camera/camcorder on the rear – with Flash and HD video capture – and a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front.
Because the Design comes with Android 4.0, it has some nifty features that are missing from smartphones that use older operating systems.
One of our favorites is Face Unlock – which allows you to unlock the Design just by looking at it. OK, it’s a little more complicated than that. During setup, the phone uses the front-facing camera to register your face and then uses built-in face recognition technology for unlocking the device later.
Boost also has its smart Shrinkage plan that reduces your monthly payments the longer you stay with the no-contract carrier.
More proof that prepaid & non-contract phones can give you a great 4G phone at a fraction of the true cost of a carrier device.
