Given that Sprint was the first carrier with a 4G network it’s not surprising that the carrier has the largest range of 4G phones. But of all Sprint phones which one deserves to be in your hands?
Let’s start with the newest 4G phone on the carrier.
HTC EVO Design
Pros Bright Super LCD display, latest version of Android (Gingerbread), customizable lockscreen, support for multiple simultaneous email logins, great price.
Cons Speakers lack bass when playing music.
Summary
Think of the Design as a much improved follow up to the EVO 4G – the EVO Design is faster and more responsive the original, especially in the camera department.
Epic 4G Touch
Pros One of the new, even larger generation of 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus displays, very fast 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), 8 megapixel camera with HD video at 1080p with a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 3D user interface.
Cons Screen can be difficult to read in bright, direct sunlight.
Summary
With the pedigree of the Samsung Galaxy S II behind it (one of the world’s best-selling phones), the Epic Touch doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great phone with two excellent cameras – which have had a couple of enhancements from the GS II versions – and of the biggest and brightest touchscreen displays on the market.
Motorola PHOTON 4G
Pros Bright 4.3 inch qHD PenTile touchscreen display offers great viewing angles, excellent performance from the dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU, right out of the box you get Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and a great wireless radio giving excellent signal strength and call quality on the Sprint network.
Cons While the PenTile display technology is excellent it’s not as good as Retina on the iPhone or Super AMOLED Plus on Samsung phones.
Summary
Rock-solid call quality, 8 megapixel camera, Android 2.3 and decent battery life make the Motorola PHOTON 4G the best cameraphone on Sprint.
HTC EVO 3D
Pros Dual-core 1.3GHz processor, Android 2.3 and the latest HTC Sense 3.0 user interface, 4.3 inch stereoscopic qHD display for glasses-free 3D apps, movies and games. Great quality feel to the body of the EVO 3D.
Cons Call quality doesn’t match the Photon, neither does the battery life.
Summary Good quality 4G phone with fun 3D display and the option to create your own 3D content using the dual 5 megapixel camera. Despite fantastic features, poor battery life (which can fixed with an extended battery) and not-so-great call quality mean the EVO 3D has to come second to the PHOTON.
