LG Lucid – Great First Time 4G Smartphone

Looks like Verizon has a new hit on their hands in the shape of the LG Lucid, a 4G phone aimed squarely at first time smartphone users.

Designed to be an easy-to-use smartphone, the Lucid has a number of cool features like direct access to calls, messages, voicemail and the camera directly from the lock screen.

One of the key reasons to consider buying the Lucid is the 4-inch touch display that’s bright enough to be easily viewed even in direct sunlight. The screen, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, is also very scratch resistant.

It scores pretty highly when it comes to specifications too. LG have given the Lucid a fast 1.2GHz dual-core processor which makes opening apps and multitasking quick and responsive, especially when you’re using Verizon’s 4G network.

That fast 4G connection also comes into its own when hitting the mobile web making streaming video and audio content, social networks and websites all load in an instant. Real life download and upload speeds for Verizon 4G are 5 – 12 Mbps download and 2 – 5 Mbps upload, which means downloading an entire song file takes around 4 seconds.

For an optional additional charge, the connection can be shared with other Wi-Fi devices (like a tablet or laptop) via the built-in mobile hotspot. The Lucid also has full Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 functionality.

The 5-megapixel main camera takes very decent images as well as full High Definition (HD) video both of which you can share instantly with friends and family via Facebook, You Tube or other social networks directly from the smartphone.

There’s also a front-facing camera for self portraits and video chats.

Storage options are generous with 8GB of internal memory which is expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB. There’s also 1GB of RAM.

Other features include full GPS for navigation with Google Maps and other location-based services, a multimedia player, voice web search & commands and a customizable home screen feature.

All this runs on Google’s Android 2.3 operating system so there’s very good integration with all of Google’s products like Gmail, calendar and Google Plus. There’s also easy access to the Play store (formerly called Android Market) for thousands of free and premium apps.

To get you started, Verizon have pre-loaded the Lucid with a good selection of useful apps including a web browser, Calculator, Calendar (Google or Corporate), Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, News & Weather, Phone, Settings, Video Player, Voice Dialer, Voice Search and YouTube.

Conclusion

The LG Lucid packs a huge amount into a compact and stylish 4G phone with a great screen. Currently Verizon have the Lucid priced at $29.99 on two-year contract or you can pick up for one penny at Amazon.
