myTouch 4G for T-Mobile

The myTouch 4G for T-Mobile - compact but powerful

If you’re looking for a speedy 4G smartphone that’s not as bulky as some of the rest then consider the T-Mobile myTouch 4G. It’s a touchscreen Android 2.2 phone with 3.8 inch touchscreen that’s smaller and less bulky than its T-Mobile G2 predecessor – mainly because it uses a virtual keyboard rather than a physical slide-out keyboard.

Smaller it may be but it still packs a punch with a fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor, T-Mobile 4G support, and WiFi networking – including mobile hotspot capability, so you can share you 4G connection with other WiFi-enabled devices like notebooks and music players.

While the main camera is not as powerful as the newer crop of phones that offer 8 megapixels as standard, the 5 megapixel camera that comes with the myTouch 4G is still good and has the standard features you’ve expect from a smartphone like auto-focus camera with LED flash, face finder, digital zoom and HD video capability.

Sharing your HD videos is made easy with Screen Share the on phone app that allows you to easily share HD videos and pictures you’ve captured wirelessly with any compatible HDTV or DLNA device. The front-facing camera handles video calling and can be hooked up to Yahoo! Messenger or QIK. If you use QIK you can even leave a video message if your contact is unavailable when you call.

As you’d expect on a modern phone, integration with social networks like Facebook and Flickr is built-in and works well. The myTouch 4G is an Android phone so it has access to Android Market for a choice of thousands of free and paid apps, if you need more than the many preloaded apps like Rockband, Asphalt 5 and Monopoly.

In a nutshell, the myTouch 4G is a compact but powerful and fast phone that generally has great reviews. That said, if you prefer a physical QWERTY keyboard then you may not find the virtual keyboard on the myTouch 4G to your liking.

As with many smartphones, battery life for heavy users can be an issue. If after using the phone for a while you run into this problem there are two solutions. First, flip through the settings and turn off potentially battery draining features like WiFi and Bluetooth until you actually need them. Second, consider buying an extended battery life pack. A good one like those by Seidio will cost around $40 and will extend your battery noticeably.

The T-Mobile myTouch 4G is available in Black, White and Red.
